Protecting and promoting biodiversity will be paramount to the development. 

 

We plan to plant more trees than we remove. The goal is to reforest some of the property planting trees and crops that support genuine biodiversity and simultaneously purchase several hundred acres in the Ecuadorean Rainforest to start offsetting carbon even before we break ground. 

 

As well as being very careful about the products used throughout the site, Shelter will embrace biodiversity by introducing a number of initiatives, including: 

 

o Biomaterials used in construction of buildings and structures

o Drainage using ground infiltration (bioswales)

o Biodiverse playground

o Rainwater ponds

​

o Flowers under the trees 

​

o Stretches of wildflower meadows

o Native plants that attract pollinators

o Bat boxes

​

o Insect hotels
